Solar powered lights could do a lot to make sidewalks safer for people and nicer to look at, if they were made available on sidewalks, especially at a larger scale. All things advantages and disadvantages of solar street lights

considered, it’s better for a sidewalk to be well lit, as opposed to not being so well lit. And it’s way better than a sidewalk which hardly has any illumination of its own at all. After all, this is where people walk when they move from one location to another. The darker a sidewalk is, the easier it is for those with more criminal intent to engage in mugging or pickpocketing or something like that. And solar lights can be quite advantageous in the sense that they can be quite relatively easy to install in any location. There’s no need to run wiring from it to the electrical grid. All that needs to be done is for the device to be installed wherever it is needed. There are even some designs where the solar panels at the top of the device are able to create shade, so that for those people who have to walk along the sidewalks under the heat of the sun, the lights also serve the dual purpose of making things a little bit cooler for pedestrians.

At the same time, instead of being merely useful on sidewalks, these devices can also serve a more aesthetic purpose. Online there are quite a lot of designs which have been showcased, wherein the devices are meant to add light to the streets and sidewalks, but at the same time, the designs were made in such a way that they add beauty to the sidewalk, as opposed to being a fairly drab light fixture among many. So for instance, some of these solar post lights have been given appearances which take their inspiration from nature, so that they look like something akin to trees or some other form of foliage.
