Requests for medication are individually prescribed to match each patient’s condition and may be modified as the patient’s condition changes. Discusses questionable orders or combinations with the prescribing physician and, as necessary, recommends alternative compounds to achieve similar results.
Compounding may include investigational drugs under study at the medical center. Also prepares topical antibiotic solutions, irrigating solutions, ophthalmic solutions, etc. Packages solutions in pre-sterilized containers, labels as to contents, quantity, expiration date, and control number, and completes manufacturing control forms.
Sends completed orders to wards. As necessary, instructs ward personnel in the use of the medication, i. Insures that all legal and professional requirements are adhered to for narcotics and other controlled drugs.
